Children's Social Care (previously Social Services - Children)
We provide, or arrange to provide, services that support children and families who are facing difficulties. We also support children who have disabilities and their families. We get involved with children and families because someone has asked us to help.
We try to prevent families from breaking down and try to make sure that children develop as much as they can. Our aim is to keep families together wherever possible.
If a child appears to be in danger or at risk from abuse, we must investigate the matter quickly. In these situations, if appropriate, we work with the health authority, the police, schools, the probation service and voluntary organisations to support and protect children and young people.
