The Civil and Structural Design Section is responsible for the design of new bridges. It also advises on the structural safety of all Council owned buildings, and is responsible for implementing the County Council's duties under the Reservoirs Act and the Safety at Sports Grounds Act
In 2004 the Structural Design Section opened the first Cable Stayed Footbridge to span over a railway.
