A staggering amount of work for all of the infrastructure will be sourced from outside London with the opportunities for Midland based companies being some of the highest.

New website to help tourism businesses benefit from the 2012 Olympics

A new website to help tourism businesses benefit from the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games has has been launched by tourism agency VisitBritain in conjunction with the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) and the Nations and Regions Group. The role of the Nations and Regions Group is to make sure the whole of the UK is involved in and benefits from the Games.

The new website includes brand protection guidelines which provide tourism-specific examples of what can be communicated to customers about tourism products and services related to the Games.

"There is a potential £2.1 billion benefit at stake so with a little over two years to go, we aim to make tourism businesses aware of the opportunities and challenges," said VisitBritain chief executive Sandie Dawe. "The new Tourism2012Games website will help everyone in tourism understand exactly how they can benefit from the Games."

As well as marketing guidance, the Tourism2012Games site includes business advice and access to products and services from two of London 2012's main 'top tier' sponsors, BT and Lloyds TSB.
The site encourages tourism businesses to submit their own news and views about the 2012 Games. To stay updated on relevant news as the Games draw nearer, they can register to receive a regular e-newsletter.

London 2012 Procurement Programme
The Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA), which is responsible for the physical infrastructure in East London has announced its high level Delivery Programme for the Olympic Park. Procurement is starting now and will continue until the end of 2008 for the different elements of the programme. The prime contract for the main stadium has just been announced.

The ODA has also published its draft procurement strategy document which includes guidance on the key principles for contractors (Health, Safety & Environment Policy, Innovation, etc). While there is an intention to open up participation to smaller companies and regionally-based companies, there is currently no requirement on the prime contractors to disclose their sub-contracting and supply chain arrangements.

There is now an option on the London 2012 web-site to register for updates and alerts on LOCOG and ODA tender opportunities.
