EU Institutions & Advisory Bodies

European Commission - The EU's civil service drafts policies, implements decisions & upholds EU law.
The European Commission Representation in the UK.
European Parliament - Elected body of 731 Members of the European Parliament voted in by EU citizens every five years.

European Council of Ministers - The main decision-making body of the EUmade up of Member State Government Ministers.
Council of Europe - A pan-European organisation with 46 member countries distinct from the EU. Founded in 1949, its aims include to defend human rights & promote an awareness of a European identity.
European Court of Justice - Rules on EU law.
European Court of Human Rights - Legal body set up by the Council of Europe to uphold the European Convention on Human Rights.
European Court of Auditors - Audits the EU's accounts.
European Ombudsman - Investigates complaints about the EU's maladministration.
Committee of the Regions - A political assembly of EU local & regional authority representatives which delivers opinions on EU policy and legislation. Warwickshire County Councillor Martin Heatley is one of five members on the CoR from the West Midlands.
