There are a number of different types of cameras used in Warwickshire. These include:
- Mobile cameras used in vans and on bikes.
- Fixed cameras to address speeding offences.
- Red light cameras to discourage motorists from jumping red traffic lights.
Who operates the safety cameras?
Most of the county's speed enforcement is carried out by Warwickshire Police working in partnership with Warwickshire County Council and other agencies. Safety cameras are used to prevent death and injury on Warwickshire's roads by encouraging improved speed limit compliance.
Do safety cameras work?
Yes. Casualties have fallen by more than half (2006 figures) at Warwickshire camera sites since enforcement began. Cameras encourage motorists to drive within the speed limit. This gives all road users more time to respond to the unexpected and, if a collision does occur, any damage or injuries should be less severe.
