The installation of new cameras can be prioritised under ‘Core’ camera sites and ‘Exceptional’ camera sites through a scheme called SpeedAware.

Core camera sites
These Cameras are given a high priority and can only installed at sites that meet government guidelines including:
- a history of casualties
- a speed abuse problem
- a suitable location for the camera that is both visible and safe to enforce from

Exceptional camera sites (SpeedAware Enforcement)
Government guidelines allow a proportion of enforcement (15% of total camera time) at sites that do not have a history of personal injury crashes, but where is public concern about the speed of traffic. The County Council can set up new ‘exceptional’ sites through it’s SpeedAware Enforcement scheme where there are high recorded vehicle speeds and where there is a suitable location to enforce from. This type of temporary enforcement is supported by a wide range of publicity material through our SpeedAware campaign.
