On-line certificate searching and on-line applications

Warwickshire Registration Service is working with volunteers to allow free internet web access to birth, death and marriages index data. This data will allow registration staff to identify much more easily and quickly, the original record in the registers in which births, deaths and marriages were entered at the time of registration right back to 1st July 1837.

You can now search:

  • Birth data
  • Marriage data
  • Death data

Work with volunteers is in progress so not all data is yet available but data is being added on a regular basis as volunteers complete indexing a register.

You will find a link from each search page telling you the dates and registration districts or parish churches for which births, deaths and marriages can be found on-line.

You may also apply and pay for certificates on-line if they have been already entered onto the system.. Please note that the fee for the purchase of an on-line certificate is £7.50 (additional 50p for postage). You can still purchase a copy certificate for the statutory fee of £7.00 by downloading, completing and posting the relevant form to us. For further information please click here.

If a search is successful you will be able to link straight to an application form, which you will be able to complete and then use a credit or debit card to pay for your certificate on-line. Please note that although the application form will automatically enter the register reference you have located, it is important to complete as much of the remaining detail as possible. This is particularly important where the record you are searching for has a common surname, such as "Smith" or "Brown". The additional details you give us will enable us to make sure we have the record you are seeking before the copy certificate is produced.

The on-line application will automatically go to the office where the record is located. That Register Office will process your certificate application and return it to you by first class post. Instructions on how to apply and pay on-line are simple to follow. Please note that your payment details are required for each application that you make. Therefore, if you are requiring a number of different copy certificates may we suggest that you contact the relevant Register Office directly.

Should you not wish to use the on-line payment facility, once you have successfully searched for the certificate you require, you may prefer to print off the application bearing the reference number of the certificate you have successfully searched and the correct address to which you should send your certificate application will be on that application form. Please be sure to enclose the appropriate fee.

Whilst data is being added it may be that your search will not be successful in locating the certificate you require. You can still apply for a copy certificate by following the instructions on our webpage called How to apply for copy birth, death and marriage certificates.
