Water
Water is a valuable resource. Our planet is made up mainly of water, and much of this is frozen in the ice caps. It is thought that climate change is causing some of this ice to melt, which could ultimately raise sea levels around our coasts.

A swan on water

Water is essential for life. The way that we use water has a direct impact on the natural environment.

Schools use water in many different ways. For example to flush toilets, to wash hands, to wash and cook food, to fill swimming pools, to fill up and maintain wildlife ponds and to water playing fields.

Just a few simple measures could reduce the amount of water used at schools, and additionally save money on school water bills.
  • turning off dripping taps and replacing damaged ones with spray taps
  • using energy efficient toilets
  • making sure wildlife ponds have liners that do not leak
These simple measures will reduce the amount of water used by your school, and save money on school water bills.
