Regeneration
Stratford - upon - Avon Town Centre

Stratford-upon-Avon is renowned internationally as the birthplace of the world's greatest poet, William Shakespeare. A cultural icon, the historic market town has a resident population of 25,000, and attracts over 3 million visitors a year.

Shakespeare's works continue to be performed to modern audiences at the Royal Shakespeare Company's theatres in the town. The company is presently undergoing an ambitious redevelopment of its theatre holdings worth £100 million. As a response to this investment, the public and private sector have come together to bring about a renaissance to the rest of the town, to ensure the offer to visitors is of a world class standard.

River Avon passing through Stratford
Phase 1 of the renaissance is currently underway with a £7 million investment into key public open spaces to include a dramatic new river bridge designed by Ian Ritchie. Phase 2, to be rolled out from 2008 will be of a significantly greater magnitude, with an Urban Design Framework setting out development opportunities for the wider town being adopted as policy in late 2007. Continued public and private investment could see another £100 million injected into the town.
