 Royal Leamington Spa Angling Association was originally founded in 1890 by a small group of anglers with the intention of providing fishing for local people. From small beginnings, the Association has thrived and now boasts over 1000 members from all over Warwickshire. Over the years, the Association has acquired some of the best local waters which is the main reason for it’s continued popularity. |
|  The fishing offered includes many types of water and a large range of species. Members can choose from venues such as Jubilee Pools at Ryton on Dunsmore where there are carp over 30 lbs, picturesque stretches of the Avon at Stratford and Wasperton, Ryton Pools Country Park, the Grand Union Canal, Snitterfield Reservoir and, of course, most of the River Leam.
The Association committee is headed by chairman Arthur Deeming and meets each month to discuss restocking, new waters, maintenance and competitions. The emphasis in angling now is on conservation, and the Association actively promotes the use of barbless hooks, soft mesh nets and other fish protection measures. |
|  The Association’s latest addition the list of waters is Ryton Pool at Ryton Country Park. In partnership with Warwickshire County Council and the Environment Agency, Leamington Angling Association has begun the restoration of the main pool for fishing. Banks have been cleared, new fish stocks introduced and a special platform has been constructed for use by disabled anglers.
The Association web site, www.leamingtonangling.co.uk has proved a great success with new members joining and details of waters being posted for anglers to refer to.
Membership of Leamington Angling Association is open to all and can be obtained from local tackle shops and the Visitor Centre at Ryton Pools.
