The Audit and Standards Committee
The Council has a duty to ensure that it has adequate and effective risk management, control and governance arrangements and for the economy, efficiency and effectiveness of its activities. The Audit and Standards Committee have an exciting, key role to independently challenge and give assurance on these issues. In addition since 2002, it has been obligatory for members to declare that they will be guided by the National Code of Conduct for members of Local Authorities. The Audit and Standards Committee is concerned with making sure that county councillors, non-elected members and officers of the council follow high standards of conduct in the way they conduct the business of the council. In this role the committee deals with complaints against individual councillors. Complaints about members. Each year the Committee will produce a report highlighting the work it has undertaken, and any new developments or changes to the codes of conduct.
