Free Ride Friday - 2 December 2008 |
A free lunchtime bus ferrying workers from a Warwick business park into the town centre is to continue following the success of its pilot.
The bus has been provided for workers at Telent on the Opus Business Park (near the A46) since July, and the Warwickshire County Council funded ‘Free Ride Friday’ is to continue. The Telent bus has been added on to the existing Chase Meadow service, operated by Quartz Coaches.
In addition to ‘Free Ride Friday’, Stagecoach have agreed to make their regular service from Warwick Technology Park £1 return to the town centre every week day lunchtime for a trial period, less than a third of the usual cost. With so many people working so close to the town centre, it is hoped by making it easy and cheap to get in and out that more people will be encouraged to use the bus and shop and eat in the town. The trial will be up and running at the beginning of December, in time to help boost Christmas trade.
PLEASE NOTE: The £1 return is only available to employees based at the Tech Park who produce a valid voucher. These are available by contacting 01926 418150 for anyone who has not received e-vouchers via their employer.

Warwickshire has 13th most Scenic Bus Route - 11 April 2008 |
According to a survey by a local branch member of the National Pensioners Convention, the route taken by Stagecoach Service 18 has been judged the 13th most scenic bus route in the country.
The route between Leamington and Stratford upon Avon is generally operated with a double decker which affords the passenger iconic tourist views such as Warwick Castle from the River Avon bridge and the Royal Shakespeare Theatre from the Clopton bridge in Stratford. In between there are the picturesque villages of Wellesbourne and Charlecote with many thatched cottages and as the route follows and crosses the River Avon on several occasions there are many lovely countryside views.
The route also takes in both the entrance to and part of the boundary of Charlecote Park with its historic house and world famous deer herd. Other nuggets to look out for are the miniature shetland ponies on farmland just outside Charlecote village and some of the magnificent million pound plus houses between the village of Tiddington and Stratford.
Why not give it a try and see for yourself!

There is a shortage nationally of good bus drivers and many operators in Warwickshire would be delighted to hear from you if you are a qualified bus driver wanting to get back into this type of employment or are interested in becoming a bus driver. If you are interested why not give one or more of them a ring or visit the operator's website.
