Building Sustainable Neighbourhoods
Frequently Asked Questions

What is Building Sustainable Neighbourhoods (BSN) ?
BSN is a community regeneration initiative set up in early 2003 with funding primarily from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and Advantage West Midlands (AWM). Since then additional funding has been secured from both agencies and Warwickshire County Council.
The project aims to:-
  • encourage community participation in regeneration
  • support people into employment and training
  • increase economic opportunities
  • improve the environment in local neighbourhoods

The initiative is a partnership of various agencies and voluntary groups operating across the Borough. Current priorities for the team are around supporting groups who own or manage a community building and groups who are looking to make a positive environmental contribution within their community.

Who is BSN for?
BSN is targeted at communities within the disadvantaged communities of Nuneaton and Bedworth.

What kind of activities can BSN support?
BSN is looking to support groups who:-
  • own or manage a community building and are interested in reducing overall energy consumption
  • wanting to take forward projects that will encourage environmentally based community enterprise, recycling and healthier more sustainable lifestyles, and tackle environmental dereliction
  • are looking to make improvements to encourage greater use of green spaces within the Borough
The team also support:-
  • management committees of community owned buildings and facilities looking to secure a more sustainable long-term future
  • operate a community resource network open to any group owning or managing a community facility that will focus on helping such groups reduce operating costs, improve and extend services offered, increase revenue income and develop partnership initiatives with similar organisations.

What kind of additional help does BSN provide?
BSN offers a range of services including the following:
  • helping develop and delivery of new project ideas
  • support with business plan development, marketing and vision planning
  • expertise in environmental matters and energy consumption
  • social enterprise, assistance with organisational reviews and volunteer development
  • access to other organisations and networks who may be able to help

  • Will BSN be able to help my group?
BSN does have certain criteria that any groups requiring funding will have to meet, but if we can't help you we will certainly try to put you in touch with someone that can. Contact us to discuss your ideas and we'll see what we can do.

What other agencies are involved with BSN?
A wide range of voluntary and statutory partners support this initiative. Details of these partners can be found here.
