John Newman, Winner of the Landmarks and tourism category in the 2008 Warwickshire Photo Competition

1st Place
This is an excellent photo and was judged to be the best image submitted due to a number of factors that the judges were looking for. The photo won as it is an unusual take on a well known tourist attraction. A striking, dramatic photo bringing the rainforests to Warwickshire! Brilliantly done, and giving an interesting sense of place and mood.

John wins the prize of a family ticket to any tourist attraction in Warwickshire of his choice, and for any date. John chose to see 'A Winters Tale' in July 2009 at the Royal Shakespeare Company's Courtyard Theatre in Stratford upon Avon. The Royal Shakespeare Company have kindly donated the tickets to this performance.

Mono Chesterton Windmill

2nd Place
Karen Webster's entry, Chesterton Windmill Mono, was well liked by the judges due to the strong textures within the photo. The dramatic backdrop of the cloud patterns in the sky and excellent detail of the crops around the windmill, are enhanced by the image being in black and white. A well composed image, and brilliantly executed.

Autumn at Alvecote Priory

3rd Place
Hillary Matthews, Autumn at the ruins of Alvecote Priory. A beautiful image, full of autumnal colours. The photo draws the viewer in to the ruins situated in the centre of the image. The photograph also has a oil-painting feel to it which the judges thought worked particularly well.

Coombe abbey Reflections

Highly Commended
Grainge Jennings, took this image titled Coombe Abbey Reflections. Judges very much liked this image and commented on it's great composition and use of reflection. Judges realised that Grainge had seen a photo opportunity and waited for the right moment until the people were in the correct position, creating good symmetry and perfect composition.

Chesterton Windmill with evening sun and storm clouds

Commended
Mike Cox's Chesterton Windmill with evening sun and storm clouds is another great image of this iconic landmark. Taken with the windmill looking into the setting sun, the image is full of interesting shadows and colours which the judges thought the photographer had captured brilliantly.

All Saints Church on a frosty morning

Commended
Mr D Callaghan, took this image of Holy Trinity Church, Stratford upon Avon on a frosty morning. The judges especially liked the overall composition of the image, with the main focal point of the park bench drawing the eyes in. Also the frosty details of the river beyond. A well put together image.

Swan Fountain, Stratford upon Avon

Commended
Bryony Cork, took this great photo titled Glowing Swans of the Swan Fountain by the RSC, Stratford upon Avon. A simple image that works effectively, Bryony has used the light coming through the water droplets to good effect. As such the image contains plenty of movement making it a great photo.
