Studley sits on Ryknild St, the old Roman road that passes through the county. However the first records of any settlement here come from Saxon times (around the 7th century) and indicate that there used to be two mills within the town.
It became an important needle manufacturing centre during the 17th and 18th centuries and was world renowned.
