| Atherstone, Merevale Road, Street Lighting Improvements |
| | |
| A dark patch of Atherstone has been made a safer and brighter route into town via joint funding from Warwickshire County Council and Atherstone Town Council. The area from Long Street under the Railway Bridge into Merevale Road has had a number of Heritage style lighting columns installed along with vandal resistant low energy LED units installed in the footpath under the Bridge. The lighting was installed at a cost of around £25,000 in October 2007 and will help pedestrians who live on the West Side of the Railway walk safely into and back from town during the hours of darkness as well as improving | | |

 | | The vandal resistant LED light units installed in the ground were chosen as lanterns installed on walls at low levels are very prone to vandalism which incurs high costs and can leave potentially dangerous exposed wiring. The LED units are also very low electricity consumers and each one only uses around 3W of electricity and even though they operate 24 hours a day only cost around £1.50 each per annum in electricity charges. |
