When can my child start school?
In Warwickshire children start Infant or Primary School the September after their fourth birthday. The law says all children must start school by the beginning of the term after their fifth birthday. If a child attends an Infant School, they will transfer to a Junior/Primary School in the September following their seventh birthday.
When should I apply for a school place?
The first year of school in Warwickshire is called Reception Year. You will need to apply for your child's first school place in the September prior to your child starting school. For children starting school in September 2009 application forms are available from August 2008. All forms must be completed and returned to the Admissions Service by 24 October 2008. All applications received by this date will be treated equally. However, returning your application after this date may affect the offer of a school place. Your application will be acknowledged within two weeks. It is your responsibility to contact us if you do not receive an acknowledgement card. You will be informed which school you have been allocated at the beginning of February 2009. Offer letters will be sent out 1st class on Monday 2nd February 2009. You should receive your letter shortly after. You can also apply for a school place on line through the website.
Entry in September 2009:
Places for Reception classes in Infant and Primary Schools will be posted on 2 February, 2009.
The Headteacher will tell you about the admission arrangements and the opportunities to visit the school.
The criteria for entry will be found in the area booklets available from the Admissions Service. Tel: 01926 742047 or email: admissions@warwickshire.gov.uk
The booklets are also available on the website.
How do I apply to transfer my child to another school?
If your child has already started school and is transferring to a different school you must contact the school direct to discuss placement during an academic year. If a school has a place available and only one applicant, a transfer should be straight forward. Do not assume that a place will be available automatically.
Remember: Please discuss your reasons for transfer with your child's current school. Wherever possible, you should try to resolve the problems at your child's current school. A move for a child can be very disruptive.
