school ground improvement

The children of today are the conservationists, managers and policy-makers of tomorrow.

Ensuring that issues regarding the environment around us and our potential to impact on it both positively and negatively are incorporated through relevant sections of the national curriculum will help to instill environmentally sound principles into our children.
Schools

School grounds provide an ideal opportunity to introduce children in a practical way to the natural environment. The development of wildlife areas in school grounds not only provides a facility for outdoor education it creates new habitat for a range of plants and animals. Sympathetic management and maintenance of school grounds can also help to attract local wildlife.

Universities and Colleges

Students and researchers can help to provide the reliable, quality data on habitats and species that is fundamental to determining the effectiveness of biodiversity action. Colleges and research institutions undertake much basic research and information gathering of this kind. The expertise of these institutions, gained through quality academic research, can help to ensure that land management, advice and policy regarding biodiversity is founded upon principles of good science, not just in terms of ecology but also of economics and sociology. Academic research on issues which impact closely on biodiversity, such as agricultural economics, sustainable development, tourism, education and other disciplines, has a potentially huge contribution to make to the future of the county’s biodiversity.

Through degree courses and other education and training, universities and colleges can inform and enthuse students and staff on all aspects of biodiversity and its conservation.
