Integrated Disability Service (Teaching and Learning)
formerly DISCS
The Integrated Disability Service (Teaching & Learning) works with Early Years' Settings, Schools and families to make provision for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.
There are various specialist teams within Teaching & Learning working with children and young people with
- Physical Disabilies
- Autism
- Hearing Loss
- Visual Impairment
- Specific Language Disorders
- Complex Needs in mainstream settings
The 0-5 Team includes SEN Childcare Co-ordinators, Child Development Advisers who are Portage trained and work with birth to three year olds and their families, Specialist Pre-school Teachers who work in all maintained and non-maintained early years' settings.
All teams are free at the point of delivery for work with children at pre-school, school action plus and for children with statements (with the exception of the Specific Language Disorder team who provide a free service at school action plus but who must be purchased for pupils with statements).
Pre-schools and Schools should consider making a referral whenever a pupil fails to make satisfactory progress as a result of "early years" or "school action".
Information about children is often received directly from the Primary Care Trust.
Schools and settings may request support by completing the appropriate referral form. There are several different versions:
- Single point of access form for Birth to Five Referrals
- School-age Pupils
- SEN Childcare
Referral forms can be downloaded from Click Here
Referrals should then be sent to one of the three IDS bases:
