In 1965 the County Council were obliged to acquire the parcel of land upon which the Warwick Area Depot and neighbouring County buildings are now sited. This was because the construction of the the nearby Warwick Bypass (A46) severely restricted access to the land.
 | The northern end of the area was levelled to enable the construction of the buildings now occupied by Trading Standards, the Fire Service and County Highway Policy Group. The excavated material was used to fill the southern endto bring it up to the same level.
Since then the storage yard has been used for road salt, a maintenance depot for Severn Trent and latterly for general storage of plant and equipment as well as office and welfare facilities for County Highways Operations. |
With the varied history of the Depot, it had evolved in a manner to suit the changing needs, but became difficult to keep tidy and the space available was not used efficiently.
