Launch of www.emaonline.org.uk

The Ethnic Minority Attainment Online Portal Launch was launched 22 May 2003.

The new website was developed by Birmingham City Council, Manchester City Council and Leeds City Council to share ideas about how the attainment of Black and Minority Ethnic students can be raised.

The website was launched by the then Deputy Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Mahmood Hussain, who said he was delighted that such a collective approach had been taken to this important issue.

Other speakers included Nina Nannar, Media and Arts Correspondent for ITV News , who reflected on her own positive experiences of schooling.

Jane Langfield from Birmingham City Council described how the project had developed and was particulatly delighted that the private and public sectors were working in such an effective partnership.

Kate Daly from the DfES then reiterated how the portal would support the work and priorities of the Aiming High consultation.

The site has sections on:-
  • Black History and achievement - search by subject and key stage
  • Professional Development Resources - school resources, news, virtual learning, etc
  • English as an Additional Language / Bilingual resources in multiple languages
