Teacher with childrenWarwickshire is a "good and improving LA", which is "well-led and has the overwhelming support of its schools."

This is the official verdict of education watchdog OfSTED, following an inspection of the county's Local Education Authority earlier this year.

The report, published on September 18, gives a clear picture of an authority which has not been complacent since its last inspection, in 1999, but has continued to build on its many strengths.

These include superb relationships with schools. Inspectors said: "The LA has successfully maintained enviably high quality relationships with its schools, characterised by unusually high levels of trust."

These successful relationships are based on the values of integrity, and a forward-thinking approach: "Warwickshire has continued to be principled, fair and honourable in its action and has been at the forefront of many innovative developments in education."

Inspectors listed 16 areas which they described as "particular strengths", and added: "In almost all other areas the LA provides satisfactory, and in many cases, highly satisfactory support."
