What a DAAT is
The Drug and Alcohol Action Team (DAAT) is a local authority officer team based within Warwickshire County Council's, Community Protection Directorate. It’s function is to support the Warwickshire Safer Communities Partnership to implement it’s responsibilities relating to the national strategies for drugs and alcohol.
Do not confuse the DAAT Staff Team with the WSC Partnership - this is the Safer Block Theme Group that has the responsibility for a range of community safety issues, including drugs and alcohol. Much as it's title suggests. |
What the DAAT staff team really do
The DAAT staff team:
- Supports the work of the County strategic partnership to co-ordinate and plan actions to reduce the harm caused by drugs and alcohol. These are in the key areas of:
- Education and prevention,
- Treatment, care and rehabilitation,
- Availability and Supply,
- Crime reduction and community safety.
- Supports district and Safer Neighbourhood Teams partners in their delivery of activities to reduce harm caused by drugs and alcohol.
- Undertakes and commissions needs assessment and gather information.
- Prepare strategy and implementation plans as indicated by need and as requested/directed by local, regional and national government.
- Manages a number of specific allocations made by Government to reduce the harm caused by drugs. In 2007-08 this was approximately £3m of which £2.5m was for treatment.
- Influences and co-ordinates spending by partner agencies.

Why you want to have a DAAT
If you want to reduce the harm caused by drugs and alcohol you need a sustainable plan. Think of this plan in terms of a three-legged stool. One leg being Prevention, another Treatment and another Supply.
Get these right and we will together drive down crime and improve community confidence. Take away any leg and the whole thing becomes very wobbly…. |
