Welcome to Warwickshire County Council

Waste and Recycling
In the Garden

  • Try and grow your own food and flowers on an allotment, garden or just in a pot.
  • Making your own compost is an inexpensive, natural process that transforms your kitchen and garden waste into a valuable and nutrient rich food for your garden.
  • Recycling or mulching mowers save time as there's no more stopping to empty the grass collector - no more bagging up clippings and taking them to the HWRC when your compost bin is full.
  • Buy reduced priced recycled plastic composters through the County Council or make your own from scrap timber, bricks or wire mesh.
  • Cut empty drinks bottles in half to use as planters or bird feeders.
Garden Recycling
  • Use selected household rubbish - including newspaper, vegetable peelings and grass cuttings to make compost.
  • Cut old tyres in half to make into flowers planters.
  • Use empty yoghurts pots, small aluminium cans or egg cartons for seedlings.
  • Choose garden items made from recycled materials such as railway sleepers or garden furniture made from recycled plastic.
  • Use unwanted CD's and DVD as modern scarecrows. Don't forget to offer them to family and friends first!
