St. John's Museum Refurbishment Project

February/ March 2008- Installation and displays

Finished Fire back and basket, March '08

As the fireplace in the hall was to become more of a feature, it had been decided to commission a fire-back and basket. As there was none in the collection it was decided that a contemporary work would be better than something pretending to be original and 'old'.

A sculpture called Noel Blakeman was commissioned as his work best fitted what was wanted for the space.

As part of the refurbishment project, new blinds were fitted into the hall and schoolroom gallery. They are made of two screens, one a UV protective layer and the other a mesh or net style.

This means that the outside world and garden can be seen through the blinds, giving a more open light feel to the rooms. It also means that the objects and displays are protected from damaging UV rays.
