The Restoration of Chesterton Windmill | |
| The mill was derelict in 1965 when Warwickshire County Council, who have since been made custodians of the mill, were asked to undertake restoration by the ministry of works. The Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings undertook with Warwickshire county council to restore the machinery. Work was finally completed in the spring of 1975. The first public open day was held on 30th October 1971 and open days have followed annually in the autumn ![]() Exceptional merit awarded to the county council. The civic trust, during European architectural heritage year in 1974, made awards for conservation. There were 3,200 projects submitted in the United Kingdom. 16 schemes were given awards of exceptional merit. The county council received one. In the second stage of the competition, the windmill was awarded the certificate of honour.
