What is WiFi?
WiFi is wireless technology which connects the user to the Internet, at Broadband speed, using low power radio waves.
Which Libraries have WiFi?
What you need to get connected.
A laptop, PDA or mobile phone with built in WLAN capability or an added WiFi card.
How to get connected.
You can get connected through the public network link. Access is via a filtering system.
Staff cannot assist you in setting up WiFi access on your PC. You are responsible for setting up your own equipment. If you do experience technical problems, please tell a member of staff who will log your problem with our helpdesk.
What you can do when you are connected.
You will have the same Internet access; email, messaging and searching as somebody using a People's Network computer.
You will be able to access the Information Zone websites, including World Book, Oxford English Dictionary (but not Ancestry.com) with a library card.
Can I print from the WiFi connection?
No. If you would like to print, please save the information and use one of our public library PCs.
Disclaimer
You can use your laptop in the library using your battery or our power.
You will have to sign a disclaimer for any damage caused to your equipment, and allow staff to visually check that it is in sound condition, before connecting to the library's power supply.
