Per capita reduction in CO2 emissions
National Indicator 186

Rationale - The One Tonne Challenge

Through the Warwickshire Local Area Agreement (LAA) Warwickshire has set itself a National Indicator NI 186 (CO2 per capita) target of 7.20 tonnes per capita. This is a one tonne reduction by 2010/11 on a baseline of 8.2 tonnes per capita in 2005. Intermediate targets are 7.87 tonnes per capita for 2008 / 09 and 7.55 tonnes per capita for 2009 / 10.

This indicator will rely on centrally produced statistics to meaure end user CO2 emissions in the local area from:
  • Business and Public Sector (excluding those included in the EU emissions trading scheme)
  • Domestic housing, and
  • Road transport (excluding motorways)
The percentage reduction in CO2 per capita will be reported annually. The statistics for 2005 will be used as the baseline. The National Statistics published in 2008 will comprise the 2006 data.
