LillingtonPeople - Linda PriceLillingtonPeople is a project set up to help develop the Lillington community. The two-person team, based at Lillington Library, consists of Community Development Worker Linda Price and Local Development Worker Lisza Hoyer. However, the key to its success is the involvement of the community. Lillington People sees itself as a conduit for the residents of Lillington to make the improvements they feel are needed.
LillingtonPeople - Lisza HoyerThe project is now 18 months into its four-year run, and has already improved community life and promoted community involvement through the schemes it has introduced. A major achievement was the setting up of a Residents Association, which comes together every two months to tackle local issues such as neighbourhood nuisance and antisocial behaviours, litter, effective policing and a variety of other local services or improvements.

LillingtonPeople support a variety of local groups, including The CHAIN, an information and advice shop with a new Community Office facility. The CHAIN is open 6 days a week with sessions available from the Neighbourhood Watch team, Warwick District Council, the Local Community Police Officer, JobCentrePlus, and Credit Union.

The LillingtonPeople team have managed to win significant funding for the Allotment Association and the local youth centre, and have aided in the development of the new Surestart Local Programme - a Government scheme aimed at delivering the best start in life for every child under 4 years through early education, childcare, health, and family support.

They also publish a Lillington Community Timetable, containing information on all of the groups or events in the area.

Lillington People are supported by both Warwickshire County Council and Warwick District Council, after Lillington was identified as an area in need of assistance. Linda Price said, “The support and security offered by W.C.C and W.D.C. and our other funding partners has allowed the team to fully concentrate on improving the Lillington Community. We’re very grateful to them for this.”

LillingtonPeople - Community MeetingTwo areas identified by the community as gaps in provision were activities for older residents and the disabled. With this in mind, funding is being sought for two new clubs to be launched. The Silver Seekers will serve the community’s senior citizens with games, tea dances, and a chance to sit and chat, while the Disabled Peoples Forum will give disabled residents similar opportunities.

On top of this, LillingtonPeople will continue writing the District Digest column in the Leamington Courier and co-producing quarterly editions of the Lillington Community Newsletter.
