Launch of FirstStop Warwickshire

FirstStop Warwickshire provides specialist telephone housing and care options service and a comprehensive FirstStop Warwickshire written guide full of useful information for older people living in Warwickshire, their families and carers and professionals.

The service provides information and advice about:

Services which enable people to continue to live in their home (this can include handyperson services, home safety check schemes, community equipment, adaptations and equity release schemes);
Alternative housing options (including: moving to more suitable, often smaller accommodation, moving to accommodation where care can be provided or moving to a care home), and;
Advice to people who would like to buy or part buy a smaller, more manageable home.

From Summer 2010 a visiting housing options service will be available alongside the telephone service for those people who would benefit from a face to face visit. Local staff will also offer practical help to older people who wish to move home.

FirstStop Warwickshire is being provided by the national organisation FirstStop, in partnership with Warwickshire County Council and the county’s five District and Borough Council’s. The service will use national Communities and Local Government funding awarded to FirstStop and Warwickshire County Council to pilot this local housing options service in Warwickshire until 31st March 2012.
