Hello, I'm Martin Warburton and I go to Dunchurch Boughton Junior School. The challenge has been fun and we've been getting good at looking at our energy and waste and stuff like that. School has been really interested in what we've been doing and Mum and Dad even came in one day to talk about it to the rest of my class.
The best thing about the challenge has been the composting. Me and Helen get to collect leaves to put in the compost bin. We eat a lot of fruit so we put the cores in the kitchen container thing, then we empty it for Mum. The bin is already 3/4 full as Dad has started to put in grass cuttings too. School has picked up on it too - we've got three composters at school.
Dad bought me a recycled bike that cost five pounds. I'm using that to cycle to football practice with Dad and Helen. And we've signed up to Freecycle and I got two music books for free for my flute. But you can get all sorts of free things, even tellies and fridges.
The hardest thing to do in the challenge is to keep doors closed to keep the heat in each room. (Dad points at open door and then at Martin.)
Who's best and worst at what?
- Mum is best at putting (uncooked) waste food into the compost container. She's worst at walking at night.
- Dad is best at telling us to shut the doors. He is worst at trying to find out how much electricity different things use.
- I'm best at using the compost caddy and walking. We've used the step counters and I've been doing 1500 a day, I think we're supposed to do 2000, but we're not sure the step counters work all the time.
- Helen is 2nd best at walking and she is worst at turning lights out.
