School and Youth Opportunities

Why is it a good thing to develop a European/International dimension to school activity?

It can raise standards, motivate pupils and staff, address and enrich the curriculum and enhance the school profile in the wider community.

Schools are increasingly appreciating the value of international work; whether in establishing school partnerships, using ICT in email and collaborative webpages, developing European Partnership curriculum and language projects, accessing resources to run European and International days, encouraging staff to take up international professional development opportunities.

If you are keen to develop international activity in your school, you may be interested in the Save the Children School Link website www.school-link.org.uk. Here children can find out about the lives of those in another country and you can access teaching resources that are closely matched to the National Curriculum.

The County Youth Panel attended a Euroscola event at the European Parliament, Strasbourg, in November 2005 and 2006. An article on their visit can be found opposite, as can a Euroscola Factsheet. If your school or group or young people are interested in taking part in the 'Euroscola' programme please contact Judith Young, International Development Officer.

Schools and Students will provide you with the information and contacts to support awareness raising and development of European and international activity in your school. We would be delighted to hear of any European/International days you have run, please contact us.
