The number of cyclists is unfortunately on the decline, so why not drum up some support for cycling by setting up a Bicycle User Group (BUG). A BUG is a group of people, usually based in the same workplace, who want to improve facilities for cyclists. To set up a BUG, follow these 5 easy steps:
1) Establish how many staff are interested in starting a group, using the usual company methods of communication. Remember that many non cyclists might cycle if conditions were better, so try to get them involved too.
2) Ascertain what prevents people from cycling to work (e.g. lack of facilities, being unfit, cost, safety)
3) Gain support from management or senior staff. This will help get your ideas across. Contact senior staff who cycle, or recognise the benefits of cycling. | | |
