Jupiter carers - helping keep families together
The Jupiter scheme offers families and other foster carers periods of planned short stay care. Respite can make it possible for children to stay with their main carer, reducing tension and overcoming difficulties. This can help to prevent a complete breakdown of relationships and provides indispensable support to children, their families or carers during a time of need.
By giving children and families respite, Jupiter carers can help prevent children coming into care on a longer term basis.
You will need to feel confident about working with a range of children/young people and their families from a range of backgrounds.
What is respite?
- Respite can be having a child/ren or young person placed with you for a weekend once a fortnight, month or six weeks and/or for a longer break during the holidays, or
- sharing the care of child/ren or a young person with the parent or foster carers, breaking the week up into manageable parts.
Are you easy going? Can you accept children as they are? Carers may be faced with some difficult and complex situations. Can you help rebuild the child or young person's relationship with the key people in their lives. It can be very rewarding, helping familites stay together.
Good financial support, training opportunities and social work support is provided for all Warwickshire foster carers.
