How to use Library Computers:

Library members are entitled to 30 minutes free internet use per person per day. Further use is charged at £2.00 for every additional 30 minutes.

How to get your free 30 minutes and pay for further time
  • Log into the computer using your library card number and PIN. You will now have 30 minutes free to be used in one session or several. You start each day with 30 minutes and any time not used by the end of day is lost.
  • If you want more than 30 minutes you will need to open an account. An initial payment of £2.00 via a member of staff is necessary and then you can top this up with amounts of 50p or more.
  • To drop-in or to book you will need to have enough minutes credited on your account for the time you want. Time is taken off your account at the time of booking and is corrected when you finish your session.
  • You can book up to one month in advance and a maximum session can be no longer than two hours, all subject to computer availability.
  • If you need to top-up your account to continue your session you can use the ‘Lock’ button to lock the computer and protect your privacy. Remember, your time is still being used when you use this button.
What happens if you don’t need all the time you’ve paid for?
  • When you have finished using the computer you need to log off. Any remaining time will be credited to your account This can used any time in the future. Your account will only expire if your library ticket is unused for three years but you can ensure this doesn’t happen by checking with staff each year or by using it to borrow library items.
  • If you do not end your session your time will continue to run down.
How do you find out how much time you have on your account?
  • Find an available computer and put in your library ticket number and PIN. Pressing the ‘Balance Enquiry’ button will display the amount of time left credited to your account. Your time only starts to be used once you have agreed to the computer use statement at the beginning of your session.
Do remember to look after your library ticket and to keep your PIN private.

Are there any library computers which are free to use?
  • Most libraries have library catalogue computers which can be used to search the catalogue, make online reservations, renew items, book computers and access a wide range of online services.
  • Children can continue to access the Walled Garden websites free of charge.
Non-members
Visitors / Non-members pay £2.50 for every 30 minutes.

Find out how to become a library member by speaking to a member of staff.
