Talisman Square Development Traffic Consultation - Option 1
Option 1 can be seen in the plan below. It is also available as a PDF here. Key elements of this option include, these are in addition to the elements that are common to all schemes.

- One way restriction along Station Road from the car park access located on the northern side of station road, to its junction with Bertie Road.
- A one-way restriction along Station Road from Abbey End car park to Warwick Road
- A right turn ban from Station Road into Warwick Road to encourage traffic heading north to use Abbey End, thus reducing traffic queuing along Station Road. Kerb buildouts on Warwick Road would physically prevent vehicles turning right from Station Road into Warwick Road.
- Positive Impacts of Option 1
- Visibility Problems at Bertie Road/Waverley Road junction are improved by a one -way system.
- Traffic flow restriction caused by on street car parking along Station Road is resolved by a one-way system.
- Restricted traffic flow on Southbank Road due to one-way gate at southern end
- Wider pavement along part of Station Road
- Improved safety at Station Road/Waverley Road junction
- Negative Impacts of Option 1
- Introduction of a one way system may be confusing to drivers who are unfamiliar with the arrangements
- Introduction of a one-way system would result in an increased flow on Station Road making it more difficult for pedestrians to cross between the northern and southern halves of the town.
- Increased flow on Station Road may create blockage of the car park exit from Abby End and the development as traffic will queue from the exit onto Warwick Road.
Overall Results
The one-way restrictions routes traffic from the development through Abbey End car park and to the western section of Station Road. This will significantly increase the number of left turns made from Station Road into Warwick Road. This would result in queuing on Station Road. Option one also creates congestion on Warwick Road southbound, which will make it more difficult to exit Waverley Road. However, traffic on Southbank Road and Bertie Road is limited as much as possible.
