Protecting Your Home From Flooding

The Environment Agency website now offers you the opportunity to view flood risk maps of your area so that you can check if your property is at risk from flooding. Flood Risk Maps


If you find that you may be at risk from flooding register with the Environment Agency for their Flood Warning Service.

Methods of Protection

Sand bags can be useful in preventing flood damage or diverting water away from properties and cost as litlle as 25p and are readily available from buildings merchants and other DIY superstores. Warwickshire County Council have distributed a number of unfilled sandbags to Parish Councils in the region who are at risk from flooding. Requests must be made to them direct. Sandbags are not the only means of protecting your property from floods.

The Environment Agency have prepared a guide to flood protection products that are available to protect your property from flooding.


The National Flood Forum (NFF) is a community-based network set up by people who have been through the experience of flooding and suffered the distress, losses and frustration that follow.

Whilst Warwickshire County Council does not endorse any of these products many are cheap, reusable and easy to use.


What else can I do?

  • Further guidance for improving the flood resistance of domestic and small business properties is available from the Envrionment Agency website

  • Watch and listen to local news media - they will have regular updates of both weather and flooding information. Be aware gives you time to prepare.
