My dear Mr. Evans.
I have been intending to write to you after I had heard of the death of your wife, but my time was so fully occupied last week that I was unable to do so. I write now a few lines to assure you of my sincere sympathy with you in the heavy trial it has pleased God to send you - After so many years of happy married life, the trial must be to you a very sharp one, & & there will be a sad blank in your home for the future. May He who has seen fit to send you this trial support you under it, & give you abundantly of His comfort. For her you can scarcely grieve, as it is rest after a life which I am told has been one for some years of suffering & failing health. My wife joins with me in this expression of sympathy. You have much to do
so do not trouble yourself to answer this; pardon me if I seem to intrude upon your grief; but I felt I should like to let you know how often I have thought of you lately in your sorrow
Believe me
very truly yrs
