The Workforce Development Service works in partnership with managers and supervisors in the social care workforce in Warwickshire to support the role of the supervisor as developer.

    Workforce Development
    Service (WDS)

    WDS is dedicated to helping to achieve a well supported, trained, skilled and qualified social care workforce. It is committed to developing social care staff, alongside building partnerships with the statutory, private, voluntary and independent sector. This leaflet describes all key work areas within WDS: Partnership Working, Management Development, Workforce Planning, Commissioning Training, Qualifications, and Administrative Services.

    Did You Know?

    ¨ WDS offer over 200 different training programmes throughout a year
    ¨ WDS Programme Administrators process approximately 8,000 applications in 12 months
    ¨ Warwickshire Quality Partnership links with 200 private, voluntary and independent sector organisations
    ¨ WDS has just launched its new database, advertising all training programmes available

    Partnership Working

    WDS actively promotes and supports a variety of partnerships with the health and the independent sector to help raise standards and enhance the quality of health and social care provision within Warwickshire. These partnerships include:
    ¨ Warwickshire Quality Partnership (WQP) – representing independent and statutory care providers, by offering support, training and funding
    ¨ Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership for Care (CWPC) – a strategic partnership including employers, care professionals, fund holders and training organisations
    ¨ Learning Resource Network (LRN) – providing effective ways for employee and education training providers to work

    Management
    Development

    WDS organise a comprehensive management development programme for supervisors and managers, from induction and foundation to university based postgraduate certificate and diploma programmes.

    These ensure that managers are fully trained and qualified for the important leadership tasks.



    Workforce Planning

    Workforce planning ensures that staff have the right knowledge, skills and competencies to successfully perform their role. WDS aim to do this by:
    ¨ Developing career pathways
    ¨ Mapping training and qualifications against job roles
    ¨ Supporting Continuous Professional Development (CPD)
    ¨ Responding to social and demographic changes within Warwickshire

    Qualifications

    WDS encourages and supports staff to achieve national occupational standards by offering qualification and award opportunities. There are 3 Qualifications Assessment Centres:
    ¨ NVQ – offering Common Induction and Health and Social Care, Assessor and Verifier awards
    ¨ LDQ – offering learning disability qualifications
    ¨ PQ – offering the Post Qualifying Social Work (PQ1) Award

    In addition, through other training providers, WDS commissions:
    ¨ NVQ’s in Administration and Customer Service
    ¨ PQ – further Post Qualifying Social Work Awards (PQCCA and ASW)

    ¨ Social Work degree secondment opportunities



    Administrative
    Services

    WDS has a dedicated team of administrators who provide a number of important support services to the department including:
    ¨ Delivering over 650 training events per year to the Social Care Sector
    ¨ Recognising the work of outstanding individuals and groups in Warwickshire through the GEM, Staff and Long Service Awards
    ¨ Organising Management Conferences and Senior Managers Forums
    ¨ Supporting Investors In People re-accreditation process
    ¨ Providing and coordinating resources (eg Resource Library, Equipment Loan Scheme)

    Commissioning Training

    WDS Commissioning service is responsible for:
    ¨ Working closely with lead officers in social care and other agencies to identify training and development needs
    ¨ Developing learning outcomes
    ¨ Designing and delivering tailored packages of training and development
    ¨ Commissioning multi agency training across Warwickshire with our partners

    To promote best practice, the Commissioning service uses quality training providers.
