A school travel plan is a document that sets out a number of practical steps to reduce solo car use and improve children's safety, health and environment.
A travel plan will:
- be a whole school initiative which involves children, staff, parents, governors and the wider community.
- aim to enable parents and children to choose walking, cycling and public transport with confidence to help reduce congestion at the school gate.
- address health, safety, environment, education and other social issues.
- have clear aims and objectives and targets which can be measured.
Write a School Travel Plan and receive a Department for Children, Schools and Families grant:
- £3750 + £5 per pupil for primary schools
- £5,000 + £5 per pupil for secondary and special schools
