Warwickshire Museum produces a RINGS Newsletter three times a year which provides a calendar of forthcoming events, contact details for groups and experts and other useful information items. |

Warwickshire Museum Field Services Ecology Unit The Butts Warwick CV34 4SS museum@warwickshire.gov.uk Tel: 01926 418060 Fax: 01926 412974 Part of the Warwickshire Museum Field Service, the ecology unit provides information and advice about wildlife habitats, flora and fauna in the county. The Ecology Unit provides an information service to individuals and organisations, including public utilities, consultants and local interest groups. Advice on nature conservation issues is also provided including the formal advice given to some county council and district council departments. We work in partnership with many of these organisations to help safeguard the county's natural heritage. Part of the service is free to students and the public and on a charged basis for Local Authorities and commercial organisations. |

Warwickshire Museum Field Services Ecology Unit The Butts Warwick CV34 4SS Tel: 01926 418060 Fax: 01926 412974 museum@warwickshire.gov.uk A database of information on nature conservation sites in the county and parts of the West Midlands. Together with the species record held in the Market Hall Museum the Warwickshire Biological Record Centre (WBRC) is the most comprehensive database on wildlife in the county. The WBRC also publishes county distribution atlases for all flora and fauna. We collect information on habitats and species from many sources - including our own surveys and local enthusiasts and welcomes reports on wildlife sites and species from the public. The WBRC can be visited by appointment, and can be useful for research students, teachers, site managers and others with an interest in wildlife habitats and species. Access is free to the public but on a charge basis to those with a commercial enquiry. |

Keeper of Geology Warwickshire Museum Market Place Warwick CV34 4SA Tel: 01926 412481 Fax: 01926 419840 museum@warwickshire.gov.uk A valuable source of information on past and present geological sites including mines, pits, quarries, road and railway cuttings in Warwickshire, Coventry, Birmingham and part of the West Midlands. Information on sites includes location, maps, plans, photographs, access, ownership, research and educational suitability as well as detailed descriptions of rocks, minerals and fossils. The Centre identifies sites of primary scientific interest in Warwickshire and co-ordinates work to conserve them for the benefit of science and education. It is suitable for use by people and organisations with an interest in geology, including students, researchers, teachers, planners and engineers. Warwickshire Geological Localities Record Centre. |

It selects and notifies Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSIs) which are nationally important for their wildlife or geology and of which there are 47 in Warwickshire with a further 20 under consideration. EN is consulted on proposals to change the use of SSIs, on Structure Plans and Local Plans, to ensure they contain strong policies for nature conservation. They are in the partnership funding the Warwickshire Habitat Biodiversity Audit. |

As an advisory body, it encourages others to develop activities and policies which further these aims. The CC also awards discretionary grants towards informal recreation and landscape conservation projects, runs research projects and experimental schemes such as Countryside Stewardship - a discretionary grant scheme which promotes positive land management. Involved in the Parish Paths Partnership, Community Forests, Hedgerow Incentive Scheme, Rural Action and the National Forest, it offers advice to organisations and individuals. |

The trust manages 40 nature reserves which cover more than 2,000 acres of woodlands, meadows and wetlands. It campaigns on nature conservation issues, works with planners to protect natural habitats and liaises with local community groups and schools to provide help where needed. The trust is a member of the partnership involved with the Warwickshire Habitat Biodiversity Audit. |

Part of a national independent charity, Warwickshire FWAG comprises farmers, agricultural scientists, wildlife conservationists and others and holds competitions, training events, field and evening meetings. It is able to offer advice on a wide range of topics from the care and management of wildlife habitats on farms to the creation of new habitats such as ponds, woodlands, hedges and flower meadows. It can also provide useful information on the source of materials, labour and grants. |
