How to do your bit | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Reduce Reducing rubbish means not creating it in the first place. There are a number of ways you can do this, some of which involve a few lifestyle changes. See our Shop Smart pages or Love Food Hate Waste for helpful advice. The main causes of unnecessary rubbish are Junk Mail, packaging and disposable items. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Reuse Reusing an item means finding another use for it or taking it to a charity shop for someone else to use and benefit the charity rather than throwing it away. You can even give items away online using Community Freebay or Freegle. One man's rubbish is another mans treasure! | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Compost Composting is a good way of turning your rubbish into something highly prized in the world of gardening. Not only is it good for your garden but it will also save you money as you won't have to buy any compost. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Recycle If you can't re-use an item then the next step is to recycle it. It saves resources and prevents rubbish going to landfill sites which are running out of space and can harm the environment. There are a number of facilities available throughout the County from Household Recycling Centres to Kerbside Collection Schemes. Don't forget that items such as plastic recycling and cans should be washed and squashed before you recycle them. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
