 | Bulkington is a large village near the towns of Nuneaton and Bedworth. It was mentioned in the Domesday Book when it was refered to as Bochintone -meaning 'town of the beach trees'.
In the past weaving was the village's main industry - brought to the area by French Hugenots in the 17th century. Today Bulkington is mainly a commuter village for the larger nearby towns.
The village has connections with the locally born author George Eliot (Mary-Anne Evans) who knew the village well. She referred to it as Raveloe in her book Silas Marner (1861) and her uncle and aunt are buried in the village church of St James.
