The Stratford Minitram
Following a successful trial of the Minitram in Stratford-upon-Avon during the first part of 2003, County Councillors have supported the view that the new form of public transport has a future in Stratford, and have asked that work gets underway to integrate their use into the public transport system for the town.
The trial attracted over 1,400 users to experience the Minitram, an electrically powered road-going vehicle. With a 98% positive response rate, users were particularly pleased with the zero emissions, and low noise levels, and its narrowness also meant that it could negotiate very narrow streets.
Although one of the features of the Minitram is its guidance system, for the purposes of the trial, the vehicle was manually steered. Consideration will now be given to the merits of a guidance system and work will continue on the project.
