What are the Food and Drink Awards?
The awards aim to encourage food, drink and tourism businesses to place an emphasis on Quality and Innovation using Fresh Seasonal produce and to encourage them to source their supplies locally. The awards recognise the use of Fresh quality food and drink in the creation of traditional, innovative and seasonal recipes that are then promoted on menus and/or marketing material.

The Categories for 2007 are:
  • Best Restaurant of the Year Including Pub / Inn / Winebar
  • Best Cafe/Tea Room of the year (serving lunches & afternoon tea)
  • Best Breakfast of the Year Including B&Bs (open to any business that serves a breakfast)
  • Best Ethnic restaurant
  • Best Junior Chef (Chefs 18 to 22 with a minimum of one years experience working full or part time)
For the above categories entry is by self nomination (enter your own business) For junior chef indicate on entry form you wish to enter and provide details of person on separate sheet.

The following awards will be given by the judges selected from the businesses that enter the self nomination categories
  • Champion of Local Produce (how well you promote use of local produce)
  • Excellence in Quality & Customer Service
Nominations are invited for the following award. You may nominate a supplier (produce) or catering business. The judges may also select suitable candidates from other entries.

What do you mean by sourcing my supplies locally?
For 'Best Locally Sourced Dish' and 'Champion of Local Produce'
This means your menus should use some locally produced food and drink or locally processed food and drink containing at least one local ingredient. Produce should be sourced within Coventry and Warwickshire or not more than 30 miles outside the boundary. Food and drink produced on your premises such as pies and cakes are included provided they contain at least one local ingredient.

How will my business benefit from entering?

-By using local produce, you will be offering the customers a unique eating experience and distinctiveness that many of your competitors may not offer.
-Repeat custom through offering quality and authenticity.
-Winners receive increased recognition and publicity highlighting success
-Increased awareness of your business amongst potential customers

What prizes are on offer?
Winners are awarded a certificate and trophy.
Awards of Highly Commended, Commended and other awards are made at the judges discretion.
