CD launch for Boys' Choir >>

The Warwickshire County Boys' Choir will be launching their first CD at a special Mother's Day concert in Kenilworth on 13th March. The boys will be performing their songs to mothers from all over the county at St. Nicholas in Abbey Fields and afterwards people will be able to buy the CD, recorded in January, which features 12 of their most popular tracks. These include the Westlife cover, You Raise Me Up, the gospel song Elijah Rock, the choral work of Panis Angelicus, and the Beach Boy favourite Fun, Fun, Fun. Music director Garry Jones said that he had been very impressed with the professionalism and dedication of all the boys during the recording which has produced a CD of very high quality.

Youth Waits gain Award for new recorders >>

The County Youth Waits, Warwickshire’s nationally acclaimed County Performance Group of 10 players who specialise in Medieval and Renaissance music, have just won an award for £2500 to buy new recorders. The grant has come from the Youth Opportunities Fund and it comes just in time for the group to replace instruments that were so worn out that the young musicians have been hard put to do justice to their music making. Considering that the Youth Waits were selected to take part in the Festival of Music for Youth last July and in the International Early Music Festival at Greenwich last November it is right and fitting that this talented group should play on appropriate equipment!

Other instruments that this multi-skilled group play include viols, crumhorns, cornamuses, shawms, rebec, harp, psaltery and percussion; however they all play recorders, and they are looking forward to taking their new instruments to the York Early Music Festival where they are giving a concert this summer.

The multicultural theme was maintained throughout with an exotic lunch menu and trade stands featuring world instruments.

The enthusiasm and energy levels were high throughout the day which rounded off with an uplifting whole group singing session let by Celia Wickham Anderson.

Delegates left with a greater understanding of the role of multi-cultural music in education, with some new skills and a hunger for more! 96% of delegates gave us their views and the overwhelming response was "excellent" and with such a resounding success all we can do is MORE! - look out for the dates.

Nuneaton Music Centre enjoy visit to Dunfield House >>

On a blustery, wet evening in November 35 players and three staff set off from Nuneaton Music Centre on a long and difficult journey to Dunfield House in Herefordshire for a weekend of rehearsals. Once the journey was completed we arrived to Dunfield’s usual warm welcome of hot chocolate before bedtime. There were plenty of rehearsals but time was made for some other activities including swimming while five intrepid walkers hiked to the Welsh border. By the end of the weekend players’ skills had been improved, new friendships made and old friendships consolidated. After a hearty roast lunch a much easier journey home rounded off a most enjoyable weekend.

An enthusiastic cast put on a 'dazzling' performance >>

The young but enthusiastic cast for this 'Star trek' extravaganza gave four performances of 'Dazzle' at Dale Street Methodist Church Hall for schools, friends and family members.

Dancing to lively songs with slick repartee, wonderfully corny jokes for the older members of the audience, combined with excellent lighting and well aimed water pistols in one scene. The cast seemed to enjoy themselves as much as the audience. Older theatre members took on the various 'Star trek' characters, and the whole cast was supported by a static choir made up with pupils from Newburgh and St Peter's Primary Schools.

The cast of Dazzle

A small live band gave added pzazz to the music, directed by Simon Grimshaw and the whole show was directed by Jane Trew and Matthew Hinchliffe who also choreographed the dances. Special thanks go to the sound and lighting crew, and parents who assisted during rehearsals or at the performances. The first rehearsal for the March 2010 show will be 6.00-8.00pm - 16th Sept @ the new NLS school. (Sandy Lane entrance).
