Whittleford Park - from Bricks to Nature
From Bricks to Nature - The Story of Whittleford Parks Industrial Heritage
An Introduction to the history of the Haunchwood Brick and Tile Works once sited at Whittleford Park

Whittleford Park is a 43 hectare open, green space which sits between the Stockingford and Camp Hill areas of Nuneaton. This wonderful open space was once the home of both coal mining and brick and tile making, but in recent times has been reclaimed by nature and the local community.

Hosting a vast array of wildlife habitats the site offers people somewhere to escape to and a place to explore and enjoy.

As the Park develops different aspects of its heritage have been identified. In 2005 it was agreed that it would be a good idea to develop a heritage trail around the park which highlighted its wonderful variety of both industrial and natural heritage

The first to come about is the industrial heritage, thus this project – From Bricks to Nature: The Story of Whittleford Park’s Industrial Heritage.

The overall aim of the project is to create an visual, accessible trail

around Whittleford Park which takes in the places of historical interest and provide people with the opportunity to learn more about the history of the site and how the brickworks influenced architecture, building and decor

in the late 19th and early 20th centuries

This will be achieved through:
  • working with local people and organisations in order to collate the huge wealth of information that is out there, particularly from the local groups and resources listed below.
  • interpreting the historical information and creating Interpretation Points which will be used on the site and to promote the site.
  • linking the community through a variety of activities in order to share and explore the Parks heritage

  • The project is being kindly supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Building Sustainable Neighbourhoods, Warwickshire County Council Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, Friends of Whittleford Park, The Working Lives Project and many others.
