How much does County Highways spend?

County Highways manage and maintain all of the highway network in Warwickshire in conjunction with Carillion plc, except Motorways and Trunk Roads.


The county highway network has over:
  • 3820km of roads.
  • 2655km of footways.
  • 48,000 lighting columns.
  • 6,800 illuminated signs.
  • Asset value of £2 billion.
County Highways provides a 24 hour 365 days a year Highway Maintenance Service that undertakes the following key activities in a typical year:


Country Road

  • Reconstruction or strengthening of 30-50km of road.
  • Surface dressing 200km of road.
  • Patches 40,000sqm of local road defects.
  • Repairs to 10,000 to 14,000 potholes.
  • Undertakes a further 10,000 varied minor repairs to footways, verges, signs, etc.
  • Responds to floods, gales and 2000 road accidents.
  • Maintains 55,000 street lighting columns and signs.
  • Carries out extensive road marking.
  • Verge mows 5,500km, for each of the 3 safety cuts.
  • Empties 85000 gullies.
  • Repairs 200km of footways.
  • Carries out 40-80 grits a winter.
  • Carries out 1000 drainage repairs.
