John Sullivan
is continuing his work as Warwickshire's
Education Safeguarding Children Manager.
He is also acting chair-person of the Warwickshire Safeguarding Children Board's new
Safer Employment Subcommittee
.
Comments John:
"The Authority has shown vision in creating such a role. Its purpose is to disseminate
best practice
and provide
guidance and advice
to schools when necessary. It is a key part of our strategy to implement new guidance issued by the government called:
Safeguarding Children in Education
. This guidance follows implementation of
Section 175
of the
Education Act 2002
John's Priorities Include
:
* Ensuring WSCB Interagency Child Protection Procedures are followed
* Monitoring Practice in Child Protection in Schools
* Making Guidance available to Schools
* Further Strengthening of Interagency Relationships
A major aspect of John's work continues to be the delivery of training programmes for new designated teachers in Warwickshire - staff who carry a lead role for child protection in schools
He is also delivering a refresher package for teachers who have held this role for some time. Packages are also being planned for other school staff as concerns about children may come to the attention of anyone working in the school setting.
A further important development has been training on promoting safer employment practice in schools, which is part of the new Safer Employment Subcommittee's work plan.
