Grants and Funding
National Lottery Funding
Sport

National Lottery funding for sport is distributed through Sport England. Both Lottery and Exchequer funds are targeted through two investment streams:

Community Investment Fund

Community investment is allocated through nine Regional Sports Boards. The West Midlands Board has approximately £13m to distribute between April 2007 and March 2009. This will be distributed via three routes: £9m will support local delivery via County Sports Partnership portfolios, £2m will be spent on strategic regional projects and approximately £2m will be available annually for open applications. Funding criteria for open applications include:
  • Projects must reflect the overall aims and objectives of the Regional Plan - 'Sign up for Sport' - pdf, 2.84Mb
  • It is unlikely that awards for single large projects will exceed £200,000 and that awards will be for less than £50,000 for capital and £30,000 for revenue.
  • All projects must address inequalities in sport and target at least two (preferably more) of the groups listed below. Young people; People over 45; Black and ethnic minority groups; People with disabilities; Women; People on low incomes.
  • There are three funding deadlines each year.
Anyone considering applying for funding should initially contact their funding line on 08458 508 508. However, applicants should note that, as at December 2007, a significant amount of funding has already been allocated. You should check the West Midlands area of the Sport England website for future information and deadline dates and contact Greg Ward, Investment Manager Tel: 0121 7273 1794 or greg.ward@sportengland.org prior to submitting an application.
